Odds begin with how many numbers a bet covers

A roulette bet wins if the spin lands on a number covered by that bet. A straight bet covers one number. A red bet covers all red numbers. A dozen bet covers twelve numbers.

Payout and probability move in opposite directions

Bets that cover fewer numbers usually pay more when they win. Bets that cover more numbers usually pay less, but they hit more often.

  • Straight bets cover 1 number and pay 35 to 1
  • Split bets cover 2 numbers and pay 17 to 1
  • Street bets cover 3 numbers and pay 11 to 1
  • Outside even-money bets cover 18 numbers and pay 1 to 1

American and European wheels differ

American roulette has 38 pockets because it includes 0 and 00. European roulette has 37 pockets because it includes only one zero.

A simulator is useful because you can compare the modes visually while keeping the rest of the practice experience consistent.

FAQ

What roulette bet has the highest payout?

A standard straight bet has the highest common payout at 35 to 1, but it covers only one number.

Do roulette odds predict the next spin?

No. Odds describe probability over time, not the outcome of a specific future spin.
